AA Conventions: Why do I have to pay?

There are many AA conferences around the world. One of the most common misconceptions of these gatherings is that they are AA “meetings,” so there should be no dues or fees as per our Twelve Traditions. However, Founders’ Day and other Conferences are special events and not regular A.A. meetings. This conference requires months of planning, preparation and money to present. We must pay the University of Akron for the use of their facilities and other expenses during the weekend. We also are responsible for speaker travel and lodging expenses, printing costs, postage and supplies. The event is paid for through the cost of your registration. No baskets are passed. As responsible AA members we pay our own way. If you have any questions please email us at foundersday@akronaa.org.
